JUST two months into his 20th year the new young superstar of golf is clearly already enjoying the lucrative benefits of a career that promises greatness. Yet if he does fulfill all the predictions of Major success it will always be from the new home and grounds that are about to undergo a £2.2M redevelopment. McIlroy, preparing for the Irish Open after a seven-tournament debut on the US Tour, can’t mask the pride he is feeling over making a different kind of dream come true even if he is already a millionaire. Last year he was shown around Padraig Harrington’s palatial residence and admits: “I never thought I’d have made enough back then to do something like this “I’d been looking for land for a while and this place came up and its perfect - beautiful. “ It’s 13 acres, there’s already a house on five acres and then there’s two four acre paddocks and one of the paddocks is perfect. “The house is only three years old and its got its own lake at the back. “It just looked perfect that the first time me and my mum and dad went up to have a look at it. “It’s got a separate guest house as well so there’s more than enough room for everyone to come and stay.” But it is the land around the house at Moneyreagh, not far from his present home in Hollywood, that thrills him as much as anything, for he is already planning the facilities on which he can practice as long and as hard as he likes. He says: “I’m going to put a putting green in, a short game facility and there will be a 280 yard driving range- all I have to do is clear out a few trees. “I’m going to use the guys that built the course the course at Lough Erne. “They are going to come and have a look at what I have and they will design it all for me “There is already a gym in there so I’ll have pretty much everything I need to work on my game and my fitness. “Hopefully it will all be ready by next spring.” He will also be working in Europe most of the time. High-ranking officials from the US PGA tour made him an offer they hoped he couldn’t refuse – a sure sign that they, too, believe he is a superstar in the making. But refuse he did - politely - and in fact may never again spend as much as the two months he has just completed by missing the cut at the Players’ Championship. Anxious not to hurt American feelings he explains: “I don’t know how to put this but I don’t see myself playing over there full time – I don’t see myself taking my card, to be honest. “I wouldn’t mind playing my World Golf Championships and my Majors in America but that would be it: I feel more comfortable in Europe. “I can play fifteen events in Europe, add in the World Championships and Majors and that’s more than enough. "
