Thank you! Great explanation.
Once you have pre-set both loft and 'bounce', the next step is to get both the club and your body aimed correctly. To do this you simply aim the leading edge of your sand iron at the flag, and then (to compensate for the fact that you are swinging an open clubface) stand with your body slightly open in relation to the target line.
The ball position should be just forward of centre, but such is the nature of the shot that you hover the clubhead some two inches behind the ball.
When playing out of a greenside bunker you are trying to do two things. Firstly, accelerate the clubhead through the sand and hit the same spot at the same depth consistently taking the so called ‘slice of sand’. We are not trying to hold the face open or cut across the ball, a couple of fallacies surrounding the shot. Correct swing mechanics apply, which brings us back to our mini swing and always remember, at the core we have connection which always equals control. So, learn to control the upper arms and shoulders and free the clubhead for top-notch bunker play.
Thanks
