As we know all good players have the so called lag on the downswing; I prefer to refer to this as storing energy. How to achieve this is I believe greatly misunderstood. If we look on the negative side at what creates the casting of the clubhead, it is forcing the start of the downswing from the arms and shoulders – we refer to this as muscular intervention. The hands and wrists are the last link in the chain and only appear to be doing the so called casting. Now by using your hands to swing the club, without any use of the muscles of the arms and shoulders, we start to create this desired lag. Go back and look at the video and you will see all the people I coach produce a huge amount of stored energy, because they have trained their hands correctly, which overrides the destructive use of the arms and shoulders.
Hope that helps!

David Blair
I recently purchased your online instruction. In this particular half swing video, I get confused about using the hands and wrists as you describe. I have read so many things about club head lag and hitting down on the ball. This half swing drill puts the image in my mind of early release of the clubhead. Help me understand the difference. I really appreciate your instruction.

I am delighted that you have found the DVD to be of such great benefit. With regard to hitting a fat shot, this is a result of your weight being stuck behind the ball ie on the back foot. The number one reason for this is forcing the shot from the start of the downswing, from the arms and shoulders – this inhibits the correct energy flow. Keep in touch – let me know how you get on.
Kind regards
David Blair
Thank you for the Secret of Golf DVD. I spent a lot of money on Golf instructors looking for someone to help me improve my game, to no avail. I almost quit golf in despair. However, but when I purchased your DVD and applied your methods, especially the half swing exercise, my game improved significantly and I am on the course again. Thank god for David Blair. Every once in a while, I hit a fat shot, I would appreciate it if you can advise me on what causes such a shot, and on how to avoid it.
Best Regards,
Charles
top, it is a sign that the hips are not moving. In other words, the weight
is not shifting. This is almost certainly caused by an overuse of the arms
and shoulders. View the Half Swing video clip on You Tube and practice
allowing your hips to slide towards the target. Check the finish position
-making sure that 75% of your weight has finished on your left foot - if
you are right handed.
Thanks
