I believe that we are trying to get everyone to swing the same as Ben Hogan. Contrary to what many teachers comments are on Ben Hogan’s swing, his was the simplest, most energy efficient and least demanding physically. We teach the grip exactly the same way – the correct, neutral position. I believe Ben Hogan’s ideas on stance ie posture were slightly wrong. The turning of the hips on the downswing should be a reactionary movement – he placed too much emphasis on this as the lead movement, in my opinion. It’s like when you throw a stone – your hips move first, but it’s not a conscious movement.
